Goner

Goner

On the Opening night of "Goners" Tour with "Awake at Last"   I sat down with them for a short interview at the Rock School in their hometown of Frederick MD. Goner is now a 3 piece Post-Hardcore band from Frederick MD, The Band Consists of  Sam Smisek - 21 - Guitar, VocalsJohnny Jamison - 21 - Bass, Vocals, and Jacob Maughan - 20 - Drums, Vocals. Although The band told me prior to the interview I was told they only had 4 days to rehearse prior to the tour due to their Vocalist leaving the band. They still Rocked the place with a great show. "Goner" Has had a-lot of exposure since the Start in 2012 Such as radio coverage on 98 Rock and Pandora radio as well as being on the 2016 warped tour lineup.

TSMF - You guys said you was on the warped tour lineup. How did that go for you?

Goner - " It was really cool. That was when we had our old singer on the album Appalachia. it was really fun. it was our first year so we had to kinda get adjusted to everything.
that was our first time on a outdoor tour. it was hot We played some hot dates we played the second half of the tour so it was like 100 degrees. we was in Savannah Ga, and San Diego so yeah very hot. but it was fun to just meet a bunch of band and just be a part of it.

TSMF - So did you meet anyone interesting on that tour?

Goner - everyone is interesting, everyone is from everywhere. there was even a band from japan. Everything from the artists themselves even the fans everything is crazy and interesting. We are from Md, and we played the entire west coast. The Vibe there is just different overall.

TSMF - How did you come up with the name "Goner"?

Goner - We were called "More to Monroe" are record label kinda brought it to our attention, because we are releasing completely new music from our old stuff, so we decided it would be a good idea to change the name.we came up with a bunch of names. Goner stuck because one of our biggest goals as a band is to invoke feeling in people. Not only when we play live but as well as in our music. Goner just seemed to fit because that in itself when you say Goner you think of going down hill, or something. its almost like a outcast to. its like invoking feelings making you feel some kind of way.its like a universal meaning everyone feels like a goner from time to time. its also like we keep losing people in our band and we feel like we are going nowhere.so right now that's what it means. so we are goners.

TSMF - Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

Goner - on one of those posters on the wall, and headlining five years from now we want to have a great great album. Maybe we would be like touring someplace crazy, and maybe more established.that's been our problem thus far is just.... its kinda unrelated but its been like we have been making moves, making moves gaining some momentum then something happens like our singer leaves.that's what happened both times.so we are just trying to get on this train we have been trying to get on for years now. so five years from now we just want to feel like we are going somewhere rather than being goners.

This is our first show today as a three piece. it was our first time ever performing together as a three piece vs having a vocalist so it was a-lot to take on. we only had four days to practise as a three piece for this tour. It was tuff.

TSMF - You sounded Great tho!!!

Goner - Yeah man we are here, we are doing it because we have to.

TSMF - Will you have a new album coming out anytime soon?

Goner - we have a whole album recorded. with the vocalist that left the band. so yeah we are still kinda trying to figure that all out. Maybe we can go re cut it but regardless its going to be released this summer. A big thing about the album and everything is we Had a-lot of screaming in our music as "More to Monroe" and also as "Goner" even some of the songs we played tonight had some screaming in the recording. but now none of us screams. so as you can see we still have a-lot to figure out. But you know the first step was this tour.just making it a point not to be like, we don't have a vocalist so we cant do this tour. its kinda like its a-lot to take on but its also really important to take the initiative, its like no other choice. we could have tried to find a singer but its highly unlikely to find one in four days so we all just took on all the lyrics and split them up evenly like we did tonight.
